The Inter Departmental Master in Science (MSc) program entitled “Didactics of Biology” was decided by the Faculty of Biology after a proposal made by the members of the Department of Cell Biology and Biophysics and was approved by the Ministry of Education (Government Gazette 173/17/6/2003) while it was recently reformed and operates with new approval (Government Gazette 3044/11-11-2014 sq.B, Gazette 1175/19-06-2015/sg.B and Gazette 3040/ 27-07-2018).
The main objective of this program is the training of graduates with a bachelor’s degree, in the new trends in the field of teaching biology and the innovative educational methods. The educational methods include lectures and laboratory exercises, presentations of trainees with multimedia, assigned projects, classroom practice and research (Thesis). The courses’ content is related to innovative teaching methods, and the main topics explore the new technologies for enhancing the classroom experience and gain insight into the latest research in pedagogy of biology.
Like all new postgraduate programs, this one is under constant evaluation and reform. Until today, every possible effort is being made to ensure its successful operation and we consider that this goal has largely been achieved. An expanded group of teachers are participating to the Msc program faculty members from the Faculties of Biology and Pedagogy-Primary Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and of other Departments or Universities of the country, but also experienced researchers from Research Institutions, Laboratories and School Counselors with the corresponding qualifications.
The Study Program Committee which is chaired by the Director of Studies has the responsibility for the operational qualification of the Msc Program. The Secretariat of the Msc Programs in the Department of Cell Biology and Biophysics of the Faculty of Biology is responsible for the coordination of the courses, the program schedule, the financial management, etc.
